Introduction :Rabindranath Tagore FRAS was a leading Bengali poet, novelist, composer, playwright, illustrator, short story writer, essayist, actor, vocalist and philosopher. He is considered to be the greatest literary figure of Bengali language. This great man was awarded the titles of Gurudev, Kabiguru and Biswakabi. A total of 95 short stories and 1915 songs have been included in his collection of short stories and lyric poems respectively. All the published and unpublished works of Rabindranath have been published in 32 volumes under the name of Rabindra Rachnabali. All the works of Rabindranath have been published in nineteen volumes of letters and four separate books. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 for his English translation of the Gitanjali.
Early life : He was born on 7 May 1861 at Jorasanko Thakurbari in Calcutta. His father was the Brahmo Guru Debendranath Tagore and his mother was the beautiful goddess Rabindranath. He was the fourteenth child of his parents. In 1875, at the age of fourteen, Rabindranath had a miscarriage Rabindranath's childhood was spent at the behest of his servants as his father Debendranath was out of Calcutta for most of the year intoxicated with traveling. As a child, Rabindranath studied for a while at the Oriental Seminary, Normal School, Bengal Academy and St. Xavier's Collegiate School in Calcutta, but as he was not interested in schooling, he was taught at home by a tutor. In 1901, Rabindranath and his family left Shilaidaha for Santiniketan on the outskirts of Bolpur town in Birbhum district. Here Debendranath Tagore established an ashram in 1888 and a Brahma temple in 1891.
Youth : In 1921, in the village of Surul near Santiniketan, Rabindranath set up an organization called "Pallisangathan Kendra" with the help of American agro-economist Leonard Knight Elmhurst, Rathindranath Tagore and a few other teachers and students from Santiniketan. The purpose of this organization was to improve agriculture, prevent diseases like malaria, establish a religion in the cooperative system, provide medical facilities and increase health awareness among the common villagers. In a number of speeches, songs and poems in the early 1930s, he sharply criticized the caste system and untouchability of Indian society.
Popular author : Rabindranath Tagore was basically a poet. He started composing poetry when he was only eight years old. he captivated the world with her writings on the sadness of human heart, joy, mortality and humanity, spiritual thoughts, contemporary issues of women's life, romanticism, love, etc. Rabindranath Tagore was the first successful short story writer in Bengali literature. Films, dramas and television programs have been made based on several short stories of Rabindranath. Some of the notable films of his story are Three Daughters directed by Satyajit Ray (based on "Manihara", "Postmaster" and "Completion") and Charulata (based on "Nastaneer"), Guest directed by Tapan Singh, Kabuliwala and Hungry Stone, Purnendu Patri. He has written 13 novels, essays, letters, plays in Bengali and English and has composed a total of 1915 songs. His famous short stories are "Strir Patra", "Nastaneer", "Kabuliwala" etc. and his famous novels Bau-Thakurani's Hat, Rajarshi, Chokher Bali, Naukadubi etc. He has also given us innumerable writings.
Conclusion : Rabindranath Tagore's influence on Bengali culture in the twentieth century is immense. Nobel laureate economist and philosopher Amartya Sen has described Rabindranath as a "Himalayan figure" and a "deeply relevant and multidimensional contemporary philosopher". Rabindra's works published in thirty-two volumes are considered a special resource of Bengali literature. The tradition of paying homage to him through Rabindranath-initiated religious and seasonal festivals at Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan is still intact. Besides, the custom of singing Rabindra Sangeet or reciting Rabindra Rachna in various festivals and occasions has been going on for a long time. Apart from these, some other special and fancy ceremonies are held in honor of the poet. Such as the annual "Rabindra Utsav" held in Urbana, Illinois, USA, the Calcutta-Santiniketan pilgrimage "Rabindra Pathparikrama" etc.
Gray hairs are signs of wisdom if you hold your tongue, speak and they are but hairs, as in the young.
